RTL Real-Time Print & Apply Label Applicator
Industrial real-time print & apply labelling for production lines
The Weyfringe RTL is an industrial automatic real-time print & apply label applicator designed for manufacturing environments where label accuracy, flexibility and control are essential. It is particularly suited to food, beverage and pharmaceutical production lines where product data may change frequently and every label must match the product it is applied to.
Unlike conventional print & apply systems that queue labels in advance, the RTL uses a true real-time (no-queue) method of operation. Each label is printed and applied only when the product is present, ensuring the correct data is matched to the correct item, even during batch changes or short production runs.
Designed and manufactured in-house in the UK, the RTL forms the platform for some of Weyfringe’s most capable and adaptable print & apply labelling systems.
Let's Make It Stick
Real-Time Print & Apply for Accurate Product Identification
The RTL real-time labeller prints and applies labels on demand, matching each label precisely to its product.
This approach:
- Prevents mis-labelling caused by queued or mismatched labels
- Allows batch or data changes without stopping production
- Improves confidence where product data changes frequently
- Supports both short and long production runs
It is particularly well suited to production lines where accuracy and traceability matter more than raw speed.
Industrial Print & Apply Labelling for Production Lines
The RTL is a heavy-duty industrial print & apply system designed to operate reliably in demanding production environments.
It is commonly used on food and beverage packaging lines, pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing operations, and industrial production lines handling large or variable-height products. The system supports label application speeds of up to 55 labels per minute (wipe-on variant), with overall throughput dependent on product size, handling and application method.
Multi-Orientation Label Application
The RTL can be configured to apply labels in a wide range of orientations, including top, side, front, front-and-side combinations and bottom application.
Both standard and wide-format models are available, allowing labels up to 170mm wide and 330mm long to be printed and applied. This flexibility makes the RTL suitable for everything from compact consumer packs to larger cartons, cases and containers.
Automatic Adjustment for Variable Products
Production lines rarely handle products of a single fixed size, and the RTL is designed with this reality in mind.
The system can automatically sense product height and adjust the label apply ram stroke accordingly, reducing the need for manual intervention. Optional tilt-and-turn stands and easy-rise height adjustment further extend flexibility, allowing the RTL to be positioned accurately even in complex or space-restricted line layouts.
Application methods include wipe-on for higher speeds, tamp for controlled placement, and tamp-blow for fragile or delicate products.
Simple Control and System Integration
Despite its flexibility, the RTL is designed to be straightforward for production teams to operate.
Label position is adjusted using an LCD-equipped control pod, which can be hand-held or remotely mounted. This allows operators to fine-tune label placement without repositioning conveyor-mounted sensors or brackets. The system can interface with production control systems, run via variable data input, or operate using EASYLABEL software, making it suitable for both modern automated lines and legacy production equipment.
Optional Integrated Barcode Checking
For applications where additional reassurance is required, the RTL can be supplied with an integrated barcode checker.
This enables the system to confirm that a label has been applied, verify barcode readability, and check that the barcode data matches the expected product information, adding an extra layer of confidence for quality-critical production environments.
RTL Compact – Real-Time Labelling in a Smaller Footprint
Where installation space is limited, Weyfringe also offers the RTL Compact.
The RTL Compact provides the same real-time print & apply functionality as the standard RTL but within a reduced footprint. It is ideal for integration into bagging machines, sealing lines and existing production equipment where space is at a premium.
Why Choose the Weyfringe RTL Real-Time Labeller?
- True real-time (no-queue) print & apply labelling
- Prevents mismatched labels during batch changes
- Industrial design for continuous production environments
- Flexible application orientations and methods
- Supports large and complex labels
- Designed, built and supported in the UK
Built for accuracy, flexibility and confidence on the production line
Is the RTL Right for Your Production Line?
The RTL real-time print & apply labeller is best suited to production lines that require accuracy, flexibility and control rather than maximum labelling speed.
It is a strong fit if:
- Label data changes frequently between products or batches
- You need to avoid mismatched or queued labels
- Production includes short runs alongside longer batches
- Products vary in size, height or format
- Line stoppages during changeovers are costly
The RTL may be less suitable if:
- You run a single product with fixed label data
- Maximum labelling speed is the primary requirement
- A simpler pre-printed label applicator would meet your needs
If you’re unsure, our team is happy to review your production line and recommend the most practical labelling solution.
Got Questions About Real Time Labelling? We’ve Got Answers…
Q. What does “real-time” print & apply mean?
A real-time print & apply system prints each label only when the product is present, rather than printing labels in advance and queueing them. This ensures every label is matched to the correct product, even during batch or data changes.
Q. Can the RTL label applicator handle frequent batch changes?
Yes. The RTL is specifically designed for environments where batch information or variable data changes regularly. Batch changes can be made without stopping the line, reducing downtime and the risk of mismatched labels.
Q. Is the RTL suitable for food, beverage and pharmaceutical production?
Yes. The RTL is widely used in food, beverage and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments where accuracy, repeatability and confidence in labelling are critical.
Q. Can the RTL be supplied with a conveyor?
Yes. The RTL can be supplied as a stand-alone applicator for integration with existing conveyors, or as a fully integrated system including Weyfringe-designed conveyors and product handling equipment.
Q. What label orientations does the RTL support?
The RTL supports top, side, front, front-and-side and bottom label application, depending on configuration and application method.
